David H. Kauffman is one of the most recognized and experienced lawyers in his field in Canada. He acts mainly in transactions relating to construction, infrastructure and development projects. His practice encompasses project structuring, financing, licensing, tendering and contracting for major initiatives, such as university complexes, sports and entertainment facilities, industrial and pharmaceutical plants, natural resource conversion and water treatment plants, refineries, airports, roadwork and civil engineering, pipelines as well as recreational and residential projects.

A seasoned litigator, Mr. Kauffman has represented clients before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Canada and the courts of Quebec. He has been involved in many mediation and arbitration proceedings in Canada and abroad. Mr. Kauffman is co-counsel to the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies - Canada and the principal author of its Document 31, the national form of Engineering Agreement between Client and Engineer and its Guide.

He authored in 2008 The Construction Hypothec, a comprehensive study of the construction lien system and related law governing the construction industry in the Province of Quebec, and an expanded treatise in 2015 entitled The Construction Hypothec: Insights into Quebec Lien and Construction Law.

From 1975 to 1994, Mr. Kauffman served as an auxiliary professor at the Faculties of Engineering and Architecture of McGill University. Since 1985, he has been the Quebec editor of Construction Law Reports (Carswell), a national review of Canadian jurisprudence.

Mr. Kauffman is consistently named a leading practitioner in the field of construction and infrastructure law in various legal journals and directories in Canada and elsewhere in the world.
