Stéphanie Thurber practises intellectual property law, including copyright, trademarks, trade secrets, industrial designs and the management of domain names.
She provides strategic advice to clients operating in a wide range of industry sectors, including retail, publishing, advertising, arts and culture (agents, producers and artists), life sciences, franchises, dealerships, as well as in the areas of information technology (software, e-commerce and the Web). She handles issues regarding public broadcasting, compliance to privacy laws, promotional contests, the Charter of the French Language, as well as consumer protection with respect to transactional websites. In addition, she reviews and drafts technology transfer, acquisition, development, supply and distribution agreements.
Ms. Thurber has broad experience in the registration of both Canadian and international trademarks, whether in the U.S., in Europe or in Asia, working collaboratively with a large network of correspondents. She manages the extensive intellectual property portfolios of many companies and handles oppositions and expungement proceedings.
Furthermore, Ms. Thurber is skilled in the negotiation and drafting of various types of agreements, including licensing, escrow, publishing, non-disclosure, distribution, as well as research, development and operating partnerships, subcontracting and website hosting. She provides counsel in litigation cases, franchise transactions and due diligence procedures regarding various aspects of intellectual property and information technology. She is a member of many professional associations and has also authored several articles pertaining to her areas of expertise.
